Drive Your Own Career at Rain Bird

If you’re looking to take charge of your career at a company that encourages developing and pursuing your own path, along with protecting the environment, consider working at Rain Bird. One of the company’s core values is innovation and entrepreneurship, and Tom Marek sees that brought to life every day at work.

Tom Marek is the International Sales and Marketing Manager for Service at Rain Bird, and he has nothing but great things to say about the company and his role. One of Rain Bird’s qualities that stands out most to him is the value of each individual employee. Tom comes from a background in large corporations and finds the people-focused environment at Rain Bird refreshing.

“What's a selling value in working for Rain Bird is that you work for a company that really values individual contribution, and they value an individual's ability to push and drive things,” says Tom. “I like the entrepreneurial atmosphere, at least the entrepreneurial encouragement given by the folks who own and manage the business.”

People who have good ideas and want to run with them will do well at Rain Bird. Even if those ideas are a little “out there,” if you have a strong basis for why you think they’ll work and you believe they can make a difference in the company, you’ll find support and encouragement. “The ability of an individual to influence the rest of the organization about good ideas is valuable and highly desired here,” says Tom.

Tom stresses that Rain Bird is looking for quarterbacks — people who are willing to work hard in pursuing their goals and drive innovation. “Good ideas, if you're willing to carry the good idea forward, that behavior is rewarded, not discouraged here.” He adds that, in his experience, the support given by leadership at Rain Bird is unusual as compared to other companies where he has worked: “That behavior is far more rewarded here than many other places.”

Additionally, despite what you might think, it doesn’t matter if you come from outside the irrigation industry. Tom transferred to Rain Bird from a wind turbine company, and Rain Bird sent him to training and conferences both around the country, and even internationally, to build his knowledge. And, while training is important to understand the industry, what’s really important is fitting in with like-minded individuals who are willing to take on new challenges and run with them.

Tom also appreciates the work that Rain Bird does for environmental conservation. The company stresses “Intelligent Use of Water” and follows through on that with their smart irrigation systems. “It's nice to be able to continue on in something that has definitely a positive net effect on the environment in industries that are generally considered environmentally responsible,” says Tom.

If you’re looking to build a career, Rain Bird is a great place to be. Many employees stay with the company for a long time, and the team is filled with seasoned professionals. Tom plans to stay with the organization until retirement, and he knows many colleagues with the same idea. “If you continue to innovate and contribute, you can pretty much carve out whatever you want here,” he says.
