Deactivating Pump Start Operation

Purpose

These relay designs can be used to engage or disengage the pump start/master valve (PS/MV) voltage for selected stations on a single controller.

Applications

There are two basic uses for these designs:

Drawing 1 - prevents the PS/MV voltage from turning on for the first stations in a sequence, the latter stations will operate with the PS/MV voltage.
Drawing 1
Trigger station turns on the pump start/master valve

Drawing 2 - is the opposite, the first stations will operate with the PS/MV voltage, the last stations will be without this voltage.
Drawing 2
Trigger station turns off the pump start/master valve

The stations that use the PS/MV voltage must be wired in sequence for this design to operate properly. They must be the last stations for Drawing 1, and the first stations for Drawing 2.

Manual Operation

During a manual operation, the trigger station must be turned on in order to activate the relays. The trigger station is the first station of the sequence that activates the PS/MV voltage in Drawing 1, or, in Drawing 2, the first station that deactivates the PS/MV voltage.

If the trigger station is not turned on even momentarily, the relays will not engage. This means, in Drawing 1, the PS/MV will never come on, and in Drawing 2, the PS/MV will always be on!

What Components To Use

The drawing is designed around components that should be readily available at your local electronics store or from Newark Electronics. The installation will be easier if a relay socket is used, this allows for easier mounting and replacement.

Wiring

For ease of installation, it is recommended that relay sockets are used. The sockets have tabs for mounting purposes, and allow easy replacement of a defective relay. The drawing below details the terminal screw positions for the specified sockets. This is the top view of the socket.
