NEW GOLF PUMP STATION FROM RAIN BIRD PROVIDES FIRST
COMPLETELY INTEGRATED IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR GOLF PROFESSIONALS

ORLANDO, Fla. (February, 2005) — Rain Bird Golf recently unveiled its new Pump Station, designed to provide golf course professionals with the industry’s only completely integrated irrigation system. Custom built to fit customer specifications in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Tucson, Ariz., Rain Bird’s Pump Stations seamlessly integrate with central control software through the exclusive Smart Pump feature to optimize the entire irrigation cycle – from reservoir to rotor.

“With more than 70 years of irrigation expertise, we’re able to provide a level of overall system integration that benefits golf courses on a daily basis,” said Jim Banis, operations manager for Rain Bird Golf. “By effectively closing the irrigation loop, our customers can rest assured that their entire system is working in harmony.”

Rain Bird Golf Pump Stations communicate in real time with Smart Pump™, which constantly compares actual flow at the Pump Station to the expected flow. Any time actual flow differs from the expected flow, Smart Pump automatically reacts to balance the supply and demand between the Pump Station and irrigation schedule. As a result, Smart Pump reduces pump downtime, wear and tear on the system, saves water and electricity and provides peace of mind day after day.

Rain Bird offers a variety of Pump Station options designed to meet the needs of the course and superintendent. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) or Constant Speed Pump Stations are available. Additional options include:

  • Variations with a pressure maintenance pump and a maximum of 10 main pumps
  • Vertical, centrifugal and submersible configurations up to 100-hp per pump
  • Custom skids and retrofit options
  • Compatible Rain Bird filtration with integrated controls

Designed for maximum strength and rigidity, the Pump Station deck plate is continuous-welded to a channel steel frame. Rain Bird's in-house sandblasting system assures all surfaces of the Pump Station are prepared properly to allow for the best paint adhesion. The entire skid is powder-coated for lasting durability. A superior polyester powder coating process protects the Pump Station from corrosion, chipping and scratching.

In addition, the Pump Station’s graphical operator interface features a large, intuitive, full-color touch-screen display that makes the system easy to set up and allows for easy pressure setting adjustments. All pump settings can be controlled using the touch screen or through Pump Manager™, Rain Bird’s Windows®-based remote operating software. Controls on both the Pump Station touch screen and the software include all faults and alarms, pump status, pump mode, actual pressure and flow and set points. Logging capability is also available so that actual data can be used to optimize performance or troubleshoot.

Other Pump Station features include:

  • Pre-shipment calibration and data storage — All Pump Stations undergo rigorous quality testing, which includes completely assembling the product and operating it at designed capacity, to ensure smooth, quick set-up and operation. Calibration data from the assembled Pump Station is backed up in a database to provide quick troubleshooting or recovery in case of memory loss or system failure.
  • Premium filter system — The Pump Station is available with Rain Bird’s automatic backwashing screen filter system that uses a reverse flow of clean water during the short backwash cycle to flush the system.
  • Surge suppression system — A sophisticated suppression system reduces the risk of electronic component damage from surges such as lightning strikes. Surge suppression also protects control components from secondary power surges.
  • Installation/start-up procedures — Installation of all Pump Stations is supervised by a factory-trained authorized service provider. This provider ensures the pump is fully operational, that startup goes smoothly and that proper training is provided.
  • Ongoing service and support — Service support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Rain Bird's experienced technical call center staff.
  • Rain Bird’s Professional Customer Satisfaction Policy — All pump stations are included in Rain Bird’s Professional Customer Satisfaction Policy, offering maximum peace of mind. Service packages are available to extend the duration of the policy.
