Over 120 attendees joined agriculture and water management experts on Tuesday March 15 in the heart of California’s Central Valley to participate in Rain Bird’s 12th Intelligent Use of Water™ Summit. This series of panel discussions provided a forum to discuss experiences and propose recommendations that address the critical relationship between California’s agriculture industry and the state’s limited water supply that ultimately impact California’s agricultural industry.
“It is imperative that we keep the conversation going through forums like this that bring greater awareness to the importance of creating a sustainable water supply and a long-term solution,” said Rain Bird corporate marketing director Dave Johnson. “No other resource is going to have a bigger impact on the future of agriculture and human health than water.”
Moderated by Dr. David Zoldoske, director of the Center for Irrigation Technology (CIT), California State University, Fresno, the panels addressed topics including land and water rights issues surrounding the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, recent policy initiatives, and the impact of the Water Conservation Act of 2009 (SBX7-7, SBX7-6) on California’s farming industry.
Panelists showcased their water conservation case studies and shared their successful strategies and initiatives on outdoor water conservation with those in attendance as well as those participating via a web cast on Rain Bird’s website and Facebook page.
The summit concluded with two lunchtime presentations in which Andrew Gregson, CEO of Australia’s New South Wales Irrigators’ Council and Rebecca Nelson, lead researcher of the Comparative Groundwater Law and Policy Program at Stanford University, presented case studies on Australian water policy and provided some valuable lessons and insights for California's current water situation.

In an effort to bring attention to current and future water scarcity issues and the significant challenges facing citizens, corporations and the global community, US water experts convened in the nation’s capital the morning of April 15, 2010 at the Intelligent Use of Water Summit: State of The Union.
Led by an impressive panel of representatives from city and state municipalities and water agencies that excel in implementing effective landscape water efficiency and conservation programs, the 11th Intelligent Use of Water Summit focused on providing greater insight into the water conservation policies and legislation, programs, initiatives and trends that ultimately steer city and state-wide efforts to reduce outdoor water waste.
Presented by irrigation leader Rain Bird, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, the water conservation symposium provided a unique opportunity for thought leaders to engage in an open-forum discussion about water-management strategies and successes across the nation.
