CA Transparency in Supply Chains Act Disclosure

The California Transparency in Supply Chains Act requires certain companies doing business in the State of California to provide consumers with information regarding their efforts to eradicate slavery and human trafficking from their direct supply chains for tangible goods offered for sale. Rain Bird is taking the following actions to assure there is no slavery or human trafficking in our supply chain:

Verification and Auditing

During our initial supplier assessment, we require any potential supplier to confirm whether it is compliant with the standards in Social Accountability Standard 8000 established by Social Accountability International which, among other things, defines requirements preventing child labor and forced or compulsory labor, and for assuring proper working hours and remuneration. As part of our supplier qualification process, we conduct announced on-site audits of foreign suppliers where we assess whether the potential supplier’s practices are in compliance with acceptable labor practices for working hours, worker age, and compensation. Existing suppliers are subject to periodic re-audit. Supplier verification and on-site audits are typically conducted by Rain Bird employees.

Certification

Our supplier contracts require direct suppliers to certify that materials incorporated into their products comply with labor laws, including specifically those regarding slavery and human trafficking, in the country or countries in which they are doing business.

Accountability

Suppliers that fail to meet our requirements for compliance with acceptable labor practices are subject to a corrective action process and re-audit. Rain Bird may deny business where the supplier does not meet the corrective action plan.
With respect to Rain Bird’s employees, our employee handbook emphasizes that each employee has a responsibility to report violations of company policy or legal requirements. To that end, Rain Bird has an anonymous hotline available to our employees in countries where we have the highest concentrations of employment, available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Each report is investigated by our security team. In addition, failure of any Rain Bird employee to comply with our policies may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Training

Rain Bird provides training for auditors who are involved in the supplier verification or audit process. New auditors are typically accompanied by experienced auditors when performing on-site assessments. Rain Bird is in the process of developing an auditor certification program.
